Bollywood actress and director Kangana Ranaut has opened up about the challenges she faced while working on her second directorial film, Emergency. The movie, based on real-life political events, became a source of stress and controversy for Kangana. In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, she admitted that she doesn’t plan to make another political film.

“I’m never making a political film again,” Kangana said firmly. “It’s so difficult to make one, especially on real-life characters. Now I understand why not many people do it. It’s too much work, and I’m not motivated to do it again.”

Struggles During the Making of Emergency
The journey of making Emergency wasn’t smooth for Kangana. The movie, which was supposed to release in September last year, faced delays due to issues with the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). The board demanded cuts, and the film also received a legal notice from Punjab’s Shiromani Akali Dal, which claimed that the movie could spread misinformation and incite communal tensions.

Adding to her struggles, Kangana revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic and other unforeseen challenges made things worse. “We were shooting during the pandemic. I had an international crew with strict contracts. Even if we weren’t shooting, I had to pay them. Then, there were Assam floods, and I had so many other issues to deal with. It felt like everything was against me,” she shared.

Despite all this, Kangana stayed calm on set. “As a director, you can argue with the producer. But when you’re the producer too, who can you fight with? I wanted to shout that I needed more money and I wasn’t happy, but who would I say it to? There was no one,” she laughed.

Impact on Family
Kangana admitted that the stress from Emergency often spilled over into her personal life. Her family, especially her sister Rangoli Chandel, bore the brunt of her frustration. “When you have a stressful job like mine, you end up taking your family for granted. Sometimes, I wouldn’t even talk to them. But it’s a privilege to have a family that understands you and lets you be yourself,” she said.

Moving Forward
Kangana is now looking to explore less challenging projects. Reflecting on the hardships of making Emergency, she praised veteran actor Anupam Kher for his portrayal of Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister, calling it one of his best performances. However, she made it clear that her days of directing political films are over.

Despite the setbacks, Kangana’s resilience and determination to tell unique stories continue to inspire her fans. While Emergency tested her patience and strength, it also taught her valuable lessons about filmmaking and life.
