Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan recently revealed that while preparing for his dual roles in the upcoming action film Baby John, he drew inspiration from Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic film Hum. The 1991 film, directed by Mukul Anand, featured Bachchan in a memorable role where he played a dock worker named Tiger who changes his identity to protect his family from his violent past. Varun, known for his roles in films like Badlapur, October, and Bhediya, said that Bachchan’s performance in Hum had a lasting impact on him.

“I liked Hum, and it featured Rajinikanth sir, Govinda ji, and Mukul Anand is one of my favorite directors. When he made the film, it was ahead of its time,” Varun shared at a press conference for Baby John. He also mentioned a particular scene in Hum, where Amitabh Bachchan fights and then runs, which influenced him while working on his roles for Baby John.

Varun’s Dual Role in Baby John

In Baby John, Varun Dhawan plays two characters: a cop named Satya Verma and his alter ego, John. Varun admitted that the film was emotionally challenging for him. “There were certain scenes where I felt emotionally drained. Kalees sir would tell me not to get emotional, but sometimes I would just break down,” he said, referring to the director of Baby John, Kalees.

Varun also expressed his gratitude to singer Diljit Dosanjh, who lent his voice for the song “Nain Matakka” in the film. The two actors, who will also share screen space in the upcoming war drama Border 2, spoke about their easy and fun working relationship. “He is a pure artist, it’s beautiful to see him perform,” Varun said, adding that he was thankful to Diljit for contributing to the film.

Star-Studded Cast and Director Praise

Baby John also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff, with Atlee of Jawan fame producing the film along with his wife Priya Mohan under their banner A For Apple Studios. Atlee praised the cast, especially Keerthy Suresh, who plays an important and challenging role in the film. “She has pulled it off well,” Atlee said. He also mentioned his excitement to work with Wamiqa Gabbi in the future, even though this film was produced by him.

Keerthy Suresh, making her Bollywood debut with Baby John, shared her excitement about working with Atlee and Varun Dhawan. “Varun is a great actor and you will see a different side of him in this film,” she said.

The Larger-than-Life World of Baby John

Wamiqa Gabbi, known for her roles in Khufiya, Jubilee, and Grahan, spoke about how excited she was to be part of a larger-than-life movie like Baby John. “I wanted to be part of this world, and I’m happy I got a chance with this film,” she said.

Varun Dhawan also acknowledged the importance of strong production support for a film to succeed in today’s environment. “In today’s environment, if you have to bring a film, you need strong production support. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to release a film,” he said, referring to Baby John.

Release Date

Baby John, which is backed by Jio Studios, is set to hit theaters on December 25, offering audiences an action-packed and emotional ride with its star-studded cast and larger-than-life story. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Varun Dhawan in his challenging dual roles and the exciting collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi.
