In the Baba Siddique murder case, the Maharashtra Police have arrested a man named Sumit Dinkar Wagh from Nagpur. He was arrested on Friday and is the 26th person to be detained in connection with the case. Wagh, who is 26 years old, is a resident of Panaj in Akot tehsil, Akola. He was arrested by a crime branch team investigating the murder.
Baba Siddique, a well-known figure, was shot and killed on October 12 near the office of his MLA son, Zeeshan Siddique, in Bandra East. Three men were involved in the shooting. Wagh, according to police, provided financial support to the suspects by transferring money to them. He transferred the funds through internet banking using a SIM card that was registered under the name of another accused, Salman Vora, who was arrested on November 17.
The money transfers were made on the orders of Shubham Lonkar, a wanted accused who is from the same area as Wagh. Lonkar and Wagh were close friends and even studied together in college. The money was sent to Nareshkumar Singh (the brother of a previously arrested suspect, Gurnail Singh), and to other suspects like Rupesh Mohol and Harishkumar.
Police had earlier made significant progress in the case with the arrest of Shivkumar Gautam, who is believed to be the main shooter. Gautam had been on the run since the murder and was arrested on November 10 in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, while trying to cross into Nepal. After the murder, Gautam had visited the crime scene in Bandra East and even went to Lilavati Hospital to check if Baba Siddique had died.
While many arrests have been made, the motive behind Baba Siddique’s murder is still unclear. Investigators are looking into the involvement of the Bishnoi gang and its connections to the crime. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover more details about the murder and the people behind it.
