Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a strong statement on Wednesday, saying that Article 370 will not be restored in Jammu and Kashmir, even if former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi were to return from heaven. This statement came as part of his ongoing political campaign and comments against the opposition.

What is Article 370?
Article 370 was a provision in the Indian Constitution that gave special autonomy to the region of Jammu and Kashmir. It allowed the state to have its own laws, except in areas like foreign affairs, defense, and communications. However, in August 2019, the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed this provision, and Jammu and Kashmir was reorganized into two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Amit Shah’s remark about Indira Gandhi refers to the fact that, even though Indira Gandhi was a strong leader, she would not be able to bring back this special status for Jammu and Kashmir.

Attack on Rahul Gandhi and Congress
Amit Shah also took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He told Rahul that, even if his “fourth generation were to come,” Muslims will not be given special reservations. Shah was making a reference to Rahul Gandhi’s family, which has been part of Indian politics for many years, and also to the issue of caste-based reservations in India.

He criticized Rahul Gandhi for recently showing a copy of the Indian Constitution during a political event. Amit Shah claimed that when journalists checked the same copy, they found that it had blank pages. He said this was a dishonest act and accused Rahul of insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.

Amit Shah’s Comments on Sonia Gandhi
Amit Shah also made a joke about Sonia Gandhi, the mother of Rahul Gandhi, comparing her efforts to make Rahul a successful leader to repeatedly trying to land a plane that always crashes. He said, “Sonia ji tried to land the plane named Rahul Baba 20 times, and 20 times the plane crashed. Now again, an attempt is being made to land the plane for the 21st time in Maharashtra. Sonia ji, your Rahul plane is going to crash for the 21st time.”

Maharashtra Election Battle
The statement came ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, which will be held on November 20. The contest in Maharashtra will be between the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP’s ‘Mahayuti’ alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SCP), and Congress.

Amit Shah said that if the BJP-led alliance wins, the Modi government will focus on ensuring greater development for Maharashtra, in contrast to the MVA, which he accused of using the state’s resources for their own benefit.

Conclusion

Amit Shah’s comments show the political tension leading up to the Maharashtra elections. His remarks target the Congress party and its leaders, especially Rahul Gandhi, and make it clear that the BJP has no intention of reversing the changes made in Jammu and Kashmir. The coming weeks will reveal how voters respond to these arguments and promises.
