Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan recently met Bhajan Singh Rana, the auto driver who rushed him to Lilavati Hospital after a stabbing incident at his Bandra home. The meeting took place on Tuesday, just before Saif was discharged from the hospital.
Saif Thanks His Rescuer
Pictures shared on social media show Saif and Bhajan smiling together. In one photo, Saif has his arm around Bhajan as they sit on a hospital bed, while another shows them standing and posing for the camera. Bhajan also met Saif’s family, including his mother, actress Sharmila Tagore. The family expressed their gratitude to Bhajan for his timely help during the critical moment.
What Happened on January 16
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16, when Saif was stabbed multiple times during an attempted robbery at his Bandra home. The attacker, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, reportedly stabbed Saif in the back to escape from his grip after being caught.
The attacker had entered the house through a bathroom window and was discovered by a staff member around 2:30 a.m. After a brief struggle, he fled the scene through the same window. Saif, severely injured, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by Bhajan Singh Rana around 3 a.m.
Bhajan’s Account of the Night
In an interview with ANI, Bhajan recalled the incident: “I drive my vehicle at night. It was around 2-3 a.m. when I saw a woman trying to hire an auto, but nobody stopped. I also heard calls for a rickshaw from inside the gate. I took a U-turn and stopped my vehicle near the gate. A man covered in blood came out with 2-4 others. They put him in the auto and decided to go to Lilavati Hospital. I dropped them there, and later I came to know that he was Saif Ali Khan. I saw him bleeding from his neck and back.”
Aftermath of the Incident
The police tracked down the attacker three days after the incident. Saif’s statement was recorded after he returned home from the hospital on Tuesday.
Bhajan Singh Rana’s quick action saved the actor’s life, and his selfless act has been widely praised. Fans and well-wishers have also expressed their gratitude to him for his heroic efforts.
