Last week, the Bandra police station in Mumbai received a serious call. The caller threatened actor Shah Rukh Khan and demanded ₹50 lakh. The police took quick action and on Tuesday, arrested a man in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur. The man, named Faizan Khan, is a lawyer and is accused of making the threat call.
The call was made using a phone number that was registered in Faizan Khan’s name. Because of this, the police started to investigate him. Faizan was summoned by the police, but he did not come to the police station when asked. As a result, he was arrested.
The police in Mumbai have charged Faizan Khan under the Indian law for extortion and criminal intimidation. This means that he could face legal action for threatening to hurt someone unless they paid money.
Faizan Khan told the media that his phone had been stolen on November 2, just days before the threat call was made. He said he had filed a police complaint about the theft at the Khamardih police station. Faizan also claimed that he had informed the Mumbai police about the stolen phone.
He explained that he thought the threat call was part of a plot against him. “Whoever made this call from my phone is doing it on purpose,” Faizan said. He also added that the call had been made to harm his reputation.
Faizan Khan said that he had a personal reason for being upset with Shah Rukh Khan. The actor’s movie Anjaam (1994) includes a line about deer hunting. Faizan, who is from Rajasthan, said that the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan follows a religion that protects deer. He felt that Shah Rukh Khan’s words about deer hunting were disrespectful to this belief.
Faizan’s statement suggested that his complaint against Shah Rukh Khan was connected to this issue, not the death threat.
The Mumbai police are still investigating the case. They are trying to figure out who actually made the threat call and whether Faizan Khan was involved in any way.
