Former India captain Virat Kohli was left visibly irritated on Saturday at Mumbai airport as fans kept his wife, Anushka Sharma, and their children waiting while asking for selfies. Kohli and his family were at the airport ahead of his departure for Perth, where the Indian team is preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Indian team will be traveling in two batches on November 10 and 11 to Perth, where they will practice at the WACA ground, an old Test venue. The Test series, which begins on November 22, is important for India as they aim to make the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive time. After suffering a 0-3 loss to New Zealand, India is hoping for a better performance to keep their hopes alive for the final next summer.
When Kohli arrived at the airport, he initially asked the paparazzi not to photograph his wife and children. However, soon after, fans began surrounding him, asking for selfies. Kohli, though known to be friendly with his fans, became frustrated as Anushka and their child were left waiting. He was heard saying, “Family ko rok ke thodi hi na photo lunga tum logo ke sath.”

Despite his irritation, Kohli took a few selfies with fans but made it clear that his family’s comfort came first. The incident sparked discussion online, with many people agreeing that celebrities deserve privacy, especially when they are with their families.
Kohli’s performance in 2024 has been under scrutiny, especially after India’s 0-3 loss to New Zealand. In the 12 innings he has played this year, Kohli has only scored 250 runs, which is his lowest in a calendar year (minimum of 10 innings). His average against New Zealand was just 15.50, making it his worst in a home series in the last seven years.
Because of these struggles, there has been speculation about Kohli’s future in Test cricket. However, the upcoming series against Australia could be a turning point for him. Kohli has a great record against Australia, having scored 1,352 runs at an average of 54.08 in 13 appearances Down Under, including six centuries. Fans and experts are hopeful that Kohli will bounce back and show his best form during this important series.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is not just about the team’s performance but also crucial for players like Kohli to regain their confidence and prove themselves. The pressure is on, but many believe Kohli has the ability to deliver when it matters most.
